12 May 2010About Your Baby Can Read:
Developed by Dr. Robert C. Titzer, a recognized infant researcher and early learning expert, the Your Baby Can Read! program is based on leading research showing that children’s brains are best able to learn language skills in the first years of life. Introducing basic reading during this critical period makes the whole process of learning to read faster, easier, more exciting and interesting for the child. Hundreds of thousands of parents around the world are using the program as an exciting new way to interact with their babies. At the same time, the program is changing the field of childhood literacy as teachers, parents and reading experts experience its incredible success.
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials, or heard stories from other parents about Your Baby Can Read! I was really curious to see what this program was all about, and it’s not just another DVD that you pop in. They actually have a whole system, which includes several different types of word cards, books, and a DVD. Apparently kids’ brains are 75% developed by age 2, and 90% developed by age 5, so this systems tries to take advantage of this early stage where children are like sponges for knowledge.
If you watch some of the video testimonials, you can see for yourself some amazing results that parents and children have had. Because children see the letters that form the word (ie, CLAP), an example of the word in action (ie, a baby clapping), and hear someone saying the word all at the same time, children associate these three things together. The DVD is also really interactive and encourages children to participate in the action.
Your Baby Can Read sent us a Starter Kit to review. Brandon loves watching DVD’s, and this one was particularly interactive. Often times, he will just sit there like a couch potato and watch a DVD, but with Your Baby Can Read, he actually repeats words out loud and performs some of the actions (ie, ARMS UP). The flashcards are unlike any I’ve seen before and slide open to show a picture.
You can purchase Your Baby Can Read products at yourbabycanread.com.
Your Baby Can Read would like to offer one lucky babybix blog reader their very own Starter Kit, a $50 value!

I learned that studies prove that the earlier a child learns to read, the better they perform in school and later in life. Early readers have more self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school. Meanwhile, a national panel of reading specialists and educators determined that most of the nation’s reading problems could be eliminated if children began reading earlier.
