About bioME5:
bioME 5, is inspired by the Earth’s various natural biomes (communities of organisms adapted to a particular environment) such as: desert, grasslands, aquatics, forests, and tundra. All animals in our Alphabet Project inhabit and depend on these environments for their development and survival.
The bioME 5 Animal Alphabet Project was created by two architectural designers who are inspired by the visual learning processes inherent in all children. This inspiration combined with a fascination and appreciation of nature’s beauty and diversity has developed into products that act as both an exercise in imagination and learning tools. We hope that our products will be seen as thoughtful and inspiring not only through our creative processes but also by the enjoyment and interactions that they may encourage within the user.
BioME 5 currently carries three organic products – a onesie, a t-shirt, and a long-sleeved t-shirt. Each is available with letters A-Z and a corresponding animal which starts with that letter. For example, P is for Penguin, and has a picture of a penguin on it. The word Penguin is also written below the letter, but it’s upside down so that children can read the word from their viewpoint when they look down at the shirt. What a cool idea!
We were sent the organic long-sleeved Xenops t-shirt to review from BioMe5. Brandon wears long-sleeved t-shirts a lot these days, and this is one of the softest ones he owns! I like that the sleeves are cut a little more narrow than other shirts, and they taper down to fit just right at the wrists (not big and loose at the wrist like some other shirts). Sometimes I roll up the sleeves a couple of times because this one is a size 4T (Brandon is 21 months old). These shirts are great for kids learning their letters, or even for kids who love learning about new animals, like the Xenops (a small bird from South America).

My niece’s favorite letter is “A” for her the first letter of her first name(hence a very special letter). I believe her current favorite animal is a giraffe, but since she has a huge love for any and all animals, it may have changed since I was last updated–it changes from minute to minute, seems to me.

Yeah, preschool. Where we live there are definitely the “big” ones that you have to be on a list for ages before your child is remotely near the age that they’d actually be going to school. Other than those though, there are a lot of really good options that range in cost and location and how involved the parents have to be (e.g. volunteering monthly).
There are some parents that I know that are really into the whole preschool thing and then there is me and, with a good friend of mine, we commiserate on the fact that our kids are THREE and it’s PRESCHOOL. Are they going to come home knowing Algebra? No! As long as they learn a little bit and have some fun, I’m calling it a success!
