Oompa sent us the Haba Fantasy Blocks (Fantasiesteine, in German) to review. I love Haba Toys, which are made in Germany and always of the highest quality. Each piece is sanded to remove sharp edges, and is coated in a colorful non-toxic paint. The square blocks are about 1.25″ across, and the set contains a total of 26 pieces. There are some clear prism blocks, one that has a bell inside, one has a mirror, interlocking step blocks, a bridge, and lots more! I’ve never seen such a beautiful set of blocks! Brandon loves his Fantasy Blocks, and plays with them almost every day. His favorite pieces right now are the mini steps. He likes to pretend that they are stairs and puts one toe carefully on each step.

Not to rub it in, but I live 5 minutes away from the Oompa retail store and it really does rock and you really can browse for hours in there. Plus, they have all kinds of fun stuff out to play with so it’s a really fun place to bring kids.
I love pretty much everything from there, but I’ll go with the Frog Stroller-Dark Red from Bugaboo as a favorite. Who wouldn’t love it?

My daughters like pretty much any blocks that can be stacked and knocked down, but I remember that when I was young we had a set of really nice wooden blocks and I always loved the ones that were in the different shapes like semi circles and pillars for building.

My daughter’s favorite blocks are a set of soft blocks I bought when she was just learning to roll over and hold things. They are made by Parents. They are cute and she plays with them a lot. Now that she’s older, I think it’s time to move onto a wooden set of blocks.

I know what it is like to wait in line to register for preschool. I got there at 5:30 in the morning because my girlfriend said you had to be there early. Needless to say it was me and one other parent until about 6:30. But we got the class and the teacher we wanted, who was awesome by the way.

EXTRA ENTRY: Preschool Story…. My son just turned 3 last week. We have been on the waiting list for a year for the only preschool in our town. It’s a Montessori-based, in-home preschool. It looks like he will start in the fall, 2010 and will go 2x mornings a week
