Do we really need an intro for Legos?  Everyone knows and loves Lego product, right?  Yes, buttttt, did you know about all of the different product lines they have?  It’s no longer just about the plain colorful bricks.  They have sets for everyone and every interest!  They have products from Atlantis, Toy Story, Ben 10, Bionicle, Star Wars, City, Indiana Jones, Duplo, Creator, Thomas the Train, Sponge Bob, Bob the Builder, and so much more!  Lego sent us one product from their Technic line, and one product from their Creator line to review.  The mini products in the Creator line are great for stocking stuffers, priced at $4.99 or $5.99!

Of course, I’ll have to leave this review to my husband, who has a shrine dedicated to his legos.  :)   Here’s Tim…

I can honestly say that I’ve been playing with Legos for as long as I can remember. I used to build huge fortresses and military machines. I can probably attribute all of my math and science interests that led me to software engineering purely on Legos and video games.

Ever since I learned that we were having Brandon I’ve been salivating at all of the Lego sets that we’ll put together. I really want to push him down the road of engineering and I believe Legos are the first step. All of the geometry, static and now kinetics (with the Technic series) really help mold the brain into thinking about how to construct things. I also believe that the flip side of that is the imagination that children develop from creating things freely.

Brandon has been playing with the Duplo brand Lego toys for quite some time now. In the beginning he just liked to pour them out from the bucket onto the floor and mix them up, but just the other day he built a big two foot building. (Actually just two feet of blocks stacked up, but to me it was a building.)

Lego sent us the Technic 8262 Quad-Bike (I’ll be putting this together) and the Creator 6742 Mini Off-Roader (Ages 6-12).

8262-0000-xx-12-1

The Technic 8262 (all Lego toys have numeric model numbers) is a Quad-Bike with front and rear suspension! I love the Technic series! It has actual springs! It’s 308 pieces, so I can put it together in about 2 hours or so, 1 hour if I’m really focused, because I am an expert builder, after all. It also comes with plans for building a Dune Buggy with the same pieces.

The Creator 6742 is probably a little old for Brandon since he’s not quite 2 yet, but I’ll still put it together with him. It’s mostly a big pickup truck, but you can also build a forklift and tractor out of it. He loves trucks and cars, so he’ll have a lot of fun rolling it around on the floor. It comes in a really bright yellow color that is attractive and stands out. The other nice thing about the Creator series is that it comes in a reusable case that I can put the pieces back into when it’s time to take it apart again.

However, I’ll have to watch him close so he doesn’t break off any pieces and eat them. I know that he enjoys destructing Lego toys because he loves playing with my Lego Technic Crawler Crane.

Buy One!

The Quad-Bike 8262 retails for $39.99 and is available at lego.com, amazon.com, or at a retailer near you.   The Creator 6742 Mini Off-Roader retails for $4.99.  Check out lego.com or the Amazon Lego Store for more ideas.

Nice review, Tim! Duplo is the most used toy in our home too. Lego rocks because it develops both the creative and logical sides of the brain!
