Brandon LOVES Sesame Street and anything Elmo-related, so we were so excited to review this Sesame Street Ball Pit. There are several things I really like about this ball pit.
There are several different blow-up sections. Instead of blowing the whole thing up at once, you blow up the individual sections and then close them up. You’ll need to do this manually or with a pump that you already have, because it doesn’t come with one. If you do this manually (which I did), make sure you squeeze the valve before you blow in order to let the air in.
There are also multiple activity areas. You can play basketball with Ernie, push the ball through Big Bird, go in and out of the “doors,” or play in the pit. One thing to note is that it only comes with 25 balls (see my pictures below), so you’ll probably want to buy an extra set of balls, which you can get at most retailers for about $10.
One thing to keep in mind for little ones is that 3 of the 4 sides are not enclosed. The “doors” are flaps you can climb in and out of, and the two sides are open (one has a “rail”, but no plastic beneath the rail), and the other side has no rail at all. The front side between the two white balls is enclosed with clear plastic.
All in all, this would be a great gift for the Holidays. It’s everything a kid wants – it’s BIG, it has BALLS, it has SESAME STREET characters on it, and you can jump around in it! Fun!

I learned this interesting tidbit, among other things, at Toyquest:
Banzai (owned by Toy Quest) encourages kids to get and stay active, especially during the summertime, as a way to combat childhood obesity, a terrible problem here in the U.S. The site says “This year, Toys “R” Us named two BANZAI products, BANZAI Skimboard Surfer and BANZAI Pipeline Twist Aqua Park, on the 2008 Summer Play Trend List for encouraging children to keep active this summer.”

It’s hard to say which is his favorite. He likes Big Bird, Snuffy, and Elmo, but he thinks Elmo is a crab because he’s red, so he calls him “the crab.” (And, no, he’s definitely not talking about Oscar the Grouch!)
